ARTIST STATMENT OF MERGED: TWO INTO ONE My painting mentor, Sossa Bjornsdottir is one of those supportive mentors whom I am thankful to have. This body of work is inspired by her and a specific outcome of our collaborations, both past and present. Today, I presented two materials of the painter and the jeweler and merged two into one. The two primary materials of the collection are canvas cloth and sterling silver, which are the most common materials that a painter and a jeweler work with. Canvas is our mutual material whether it is transformed into metal or used traditionally. When cloth shifts from stretcher bars to jewelry, its identity transforms from a flat, yet flexible surface, to a structural and solid object. Step by step, I drift back and forth between the fields of painting and metalsmithing. During our past painting collaboration, Sossa and I shared the same palette knife and canvas. Today, we share these materials in a different format. We are artists from two different disciplines, yet merge our skills and inspire each other to evolve our artistic expression.
